The Veil blends poetry and documentary in an exploration of family, lineage and religious space. ‘The Veil’ is both a translation of the names of generations of women in the Khan’s lineage and a connection to the unequal access to space for Muslim women in mosques, acting as an opaque but tangible boundary. Through personal, close black and white shots, the film soothingly marries personal abstract prose with stunning dramatic visuals to discuss history, Muslim women, community and affective experience.
