The ‘Brave’ Ethics Panel
Alette Schoon (PhD) is a senior lecturer at Rhodes University in Makhanda, where she teaches documentary filmmaking. She is very interested in facilitating conversations between different generations of filmmakers, particularly in understanding how each generation contributes to new ideas about storytelling and asks new questions about filmmaking ethics. Alette is a filmmaker herself and has in the past had her work selected for the INPUT festival and the Perspektiva Disability film festival (where she won the audience award). Before joining academia, she regularly produced work for South African broadcast channels. She is now is interested in documenting the ideas and approaches of South African filmmakers as a resource that can be referenced by documentary film students.
